Northville Rouge River Restoration & Riverwalk Task Force
The Middle Rouge River, its tributaries and creeks are valuable natural assets for both the City of Northville as well as the region. These waterways have provided aesthetic, recreational and economic benefits to the community for nearly 200 years.
Task Force Mission: To restore the ecological health of the City’s waterways, while improving public access and recreation through the implementation of a high-quality system of trails referred to as The Riverwalk.
A developed Riverwalk system could someday connect the Mill Race historical district to Hines Drive through trails & walkways that follow along the local waterways.
Farmers' Market Task Force
The Northville Farmers' Market has been in operation (seasonally) since the 1920’s. Today, our Farmers' Market has become a highly-valued and appreciated activity across the local area.
Due to the anticipated development of the Northville Downs Property, the Farmers' Market current location at Seven Mile and Sheldon could ultimately be revised, changed or otherwise moved to an alternative site.
Task Force Mission: Build on today’s success by creating a sustainable, fun and flourishing Farmers' Market for both the near-term and the next generation.
Ford Field Task Force
For the better part of the past century, Ford Field has been a gathering location for the community, since the time Henry Ford first came to Northville to build the Valve Plant. Today, we have the opportunity to connect Ford Field more directly to the city, with easy access and welcoming attributes.
Task Force Mission: Re-establish Ford Field as a central gathering space, creating a magnet for families, young people and all those across the area, with inviting access, fun recreation, entertainment, educational & cultural activities.
Sustainability Team
While most people primarily associate sustainability with environmental conservation, it’s also about people and the health of our community.
Team Mission: To implement a comprehensive sustainability platform designed to protect and enhance our resources, prevent harm to the natural environment and our health, while benefiting the social and economic well-being of our City.
In February 2020, the Sustainability Team was formed to initiate efforts that would help and guide Northville toward becoming a more sustainable city.
The team’s Sustainability Plan was presented to City Council on October 19, 2020. The Plan document and presentation can be viewed on the City of Northville website: Northville Sustainability Team
